The participation of the Single Mother’s Association at different activities regarding the women status in Romania
The Single Mother’s Association was partner with the AFR (Association of Romanian Women) in the European project “Nonviolence and Peace-Vision of women from Romania”, in April 2004.
The Single Mother’s Association has collaborated with the “Foundation for equal opportunities for women'' concerning the social services from the view of single family, in September 2004.
The Single Mother’s Association has participated at a public debate at the labour ministry, regarding the financial support of family for the growth of the child until the age of 3 years, in July 2005.
The Single Mother’s Association has proposed an amendment at the law regarding the conditions for single families, concerning: different conditions for the allocation of a family allowance and the elimination of the obligation to perform overtime.
State Secretary Marta Nora Tarna from the Labor Ministry discussed amendments and proposed different legislations:
“Romania has not yet developed an effective system for providing social services to citizens, especially those who are disadvantaged. For many vulnerable groups are a few statistics”. An exception is a single-parent household, such as in Iasi. For example, of a total of 4600 families receiving assistance from the government under the Ordinance 105/2003, 1492, the 32% are single-parent families.
Mariana Duran, president of the Single Mother’s Association, expressed the view of beneficiaries: "What really matters is the way by which the new law (Order 86) who is addressing to the needs of single-parent family - realised the transition from a hand of many to the access at all social services”.
The Single Mother’s Association participated at a reunion at the Parliament Palace, organised by the Labour Ministry, where was discussed the problem of legislation regarding the discrimination and equal chances between women and men in society.
The Single Mother’s Association participated at a reunion with the deputy of the Chamber of Deputy, at the Parliament Palace, where was discussed the role of the NGOs in the development of Romanian society.
